Remelluri, Reserva 2015

Remelluri is one of Rioja's most storied wineries having been founded by monks as early as the 14th Century. Today, it is headed up by siblings Telmo and Amaia Rodríguez, who attained full organic status for Remelluri in 2010; meaning their 90-year-old vines are incredibly well looked-after and the wines they produce really are top notch. The Reserva is undoubtedly Remelluri's flagship wine. Aged for 17 months in barrel, then bottled and further matured in their cellar for three years prior to release, it is a big, broad and brooding red Rioja. It's made from a blend of mainly Tempranillo, with smaller portions of Garnacha, Graciano, Viura and Malvasia completing the wine. Juicy, savoury and deeply perfumed, it is a superb red to pair with lamb.
